Origins
Elfique started life in an old family farm in 2005. As the cornerstone of an initiative to breathe new life into the old building, the micro-brewery was the ideal project: brewing an original, high-quality, artisanal product, with its roots in local tradition. Elfique Ambrée was the first beer produced, then the Triple Brune. They quickly met with popular success, as well as critical acclaim, being awarded several awards and medals.
Ten or so years later, in order to meet the ever-growing demand, the Elfique brewery acquired some land at Raborive, on the banks of the Amblève, birthplace of legends. Elfique is now brewed in a place steeped in history, downstream from Brassine, where the river has played a major role in the work of the best craftsmen for nearly five centuries...Equipped with modern, semi-automated production machinery, the brewery has increased its capacity from 1,000 HL to 6,000 HL a year. This professionalisation respects the Elfique legend, at the foot of the castle overlooking La Belle Roche.
A taste of Mystery
The Elfique project is well-rooted in the Ourthe Amblève region, and it takes its inspiration from the past, the people, their legends; but it is determined to show itself as forward-looking, modern and innovative. Mystery has always been at the heart of the Elfique story. The name comes from the small beings often to be found in the legends of the valley of the Amblève river. They lived in the forests and the nearby caves such as the Grottes de Remouchamps or the Vallon des Chantoirs. These stories were told by the 19th century Belgian writer, Marcellin La Garde, and more recently, René Henoumont.
All of them offer a taste of mystery, a clever mix between easy-drinking beer with well-balanced flavours, with intriguing aromas experienced by the palate when tasting the beer.
